COLUMBUS, OH – After-School All-Stars Ohio students in grades 4-8 from the Columbus and Toledo area will be competing in the 1st annual LiFE Sports Olympics. This is a culminating event where students will compete against each other in soccer, flag football, softball, Chalk Talk, basketball and volleyball.

The Olympics will be taking place at the Fred Beekman Park at The Ohio State University on Saturday May 9th, 2015 and begins at 10:30am.

“The LiFE Sports curriculum fits so well within the scope of our Health & Fitness hour and our aspiration to provide quality holistic programming for all our students.,” explains Sienna Daniel, the Executive Director of ASAS Ohio, “it provides both healthy activity and social skill development necessary for our All-Stars to succeed in school and in life”

LiFE Sport is a program developed by The Ohio State University College of Social Work that ASAS Ohio has implemented during their Health & Fitness hour. Using LiFE Sports curriculum, ASAS Ohio guides our students through lessons in areas of dance, football, basketball, volleyball, softball, lacrosse, soccer and a unit coined “Chalk Talk.” The curriculum was developed to introduce inner-city youth to important twenty first century skills and every day social skills, called SETS (Self Control, Effort, Teamwork, and Social Responsibility), while also developing gross and fine motor skills through sport. Currently, our schools are holding basketball, volleyball, social dance, and chalk talk lessons.Slide1 Slide2 LifeSportsLogo

ASAS Ohio looks forward to continuing to innovate and grow this partnership to provide more programming for more students across the state of Ohio.
